LeicesterNCBI (National Coalition Building Institute)The National Building Coalition Institute (NCBI) is a non profit making organisation dedicated to ending prejudice and discrimination, whether because of nationality, race, gender, religion, class, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, occupation or life circumstance. Part of NCBI international, the award winning community training organisation based in Washington DC, NCBI Leicester itself won the British Diversity Awards for best diversity practice in 1998, 1999 and 2001. In 2000 we were also awarded the Mandela International Diversity Award and in 2002 won the British Diversity Gold Standard Award for Diversity in Education. We have been working for 18 years to eliminate prejudice and inter-group conflict within communities throughout the world. NCBI's Proactive approach in local communities begins with the recruitment of a team of people who are taught bridge building skills so that they can effectively combat intergroup conflicts. The team reflects all sectors of the community - councilors, leaders in schools, local authorities, social services, the health service, the voluntary sector, police, prisons and probation services, business people, trade unionist, students, community activists and religious leaders. These community leaders work together as a resource team, offering training programmes to deal with prejudice and tackle intergroup tensions. The leadership team intervenes when community conflicts arise, using NCBI tools to work through tough, polarising intergroup issues. |
